Poppytalk - online street market

poppy-talk.jpg

Promoting yourself as an indie designer can be tough sometimes but thanks to sites such as Poppytalk, a place that showcases designers, their wares and even an option to purchase the items pop up. Poppytalk charges $60.00 a month to house a virtual table.

Poppytalk handmade is a curated monthly online street market to showcase, buy and sell handmade goods of emerging design talent from around the world.

The site features a limited number of tables/pages (sellers), each seller has one image on the home page. Imagine a site with virtual tables holding images of special designers, for a one month period. Each Poppytalk Handmade Street Market is a month long allowing designers to showcase their wares in a more focused and quality platform and to increase awareness of their product more effectively. All items are tagged and categorized for the buyers to be able to find preferred items (e.g. papergoods, art, etc.).

A link from the image goes to the designer’s table (page) holding 9 items. Each page introduces the designer and why they were picked or what Poppytalk loves about them and each item has a description along with a link to their online store (be it Etsy, Mintd, Dawanda or personal online store/site). All monies exchanged is between the buyer and the seller much like a real street market). And just like a regular street market, there is a charge to rent a table (or in this case a page) which will cover administration and web hosting fees. Once an item sells, you are able to upload a new item at any time.
