What Can You Dream Up? “Create your dreamiest quilt block and win big prizes!” Here is another great contest for DIYs. This one is sponsored by Babylock. If you are familiar with, Baby Lock you know that they have been creating machines for sewing, embroidery, quilting and serging for the past 40 years. I think you will love the open-ended design of this contest.

Simply create a NEW 12-1/2″ x 12-1/2″ quilt block — it’s your dream so you select the color, style, fabric, etc.
Fill out the entry form and upload a photo or snail-mail a photo of your quilt block to Baby Lock. This contest is super easy. Deb and I both have done some quilting and may have to enter this one. The 12 semi-finalists’ quilt blocks will made into a quilt and it will be raffled off at the annual Paducah, Kentucky quilt show. And another nice note, donations will go to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. You and your friends will have a chance to vote on the best quilt block and the grand prize winner will win a trip to Paducah to play the I’m Dreaming of a Quilt game with a chance to win $10,000.00 cash! So what are you waiting for, start dreaming now.

AMACO and STAEDTLER, Inc. are proud to announce the joint sponsorship of the latest in a series of designer challenges to support “Bottles of Hope,” a grassroots national polymer clay craft movement. This movement seeks to increase awareness about charities and hospitals that deliver services to people living with cancer, through the distribution of decorated bottles (once used in chemotherapy) to patients and their families.
There is still time to get in on this great designer challenge, deadline for entries is January 12th! All mini-bottles created for “Hope on a Rope Designers Challenge” will be gifted to cancer patients and their families.
Requirements: Each mini bottle must be decorated with Fimo® Soft or Fimo® Classic clays with a minimum of 10 beads hand-rolled with any AMACO Bead Roller™. Mixed media adornment is strongly encouraged, but the beads and bottle embellishment must be 80% clay. Finished pieces should be created with kids in mind. The entire necklace length does not have to be beaded.
Categories: Winning entries will be selected for the following Categories: Best Expression of Hope, Best Use of FIMO®, Best Use of Bead Rollers™, and Best of Show to be chosen by editors from an on-line gallery at amaco.com; and People’s Choice (to be chosen by attendees at CHA).

Great American Craft-Off I read about this contest in Adorn recently and although I am sure everyone is busy making things to sell for all of the holiday markets, you might want to enter your original American themed craft for a chance to win $6,000 in prizes. The contest is geared toward the American craft market, but hey you might have something that fits. Check out the site for more details.
The prizes look really great for the Grand prize. The Grand Prize package is valued at over $6,000 and includes:
* An all-expenses-paid trip to the John C. Campbell Folk Art School including one week’s tuition, room & board, and round-trip airfare. Total value over $1500.
* A Singer CE-250 embroidery/sewing machine & serger valued at $1200.
* A complete custom website design including online store and hosting from BizLandCrafters.com valued at $2100.
* A $500 gift card to Michaels Arts & Crafts.
* A gift certificate to SonicPrint.com for 2,500 custom postacards and business cards.
* A $375 Premium Subscription to the Online Learning Library at Lynda.com.
* A signed copy of Nifty, Thrifty, and Kitschy Crafts by Leah Kramer, founder of Craftster.org
* A HomeGrownMarket.com Handmade Gift Pack valued at $350
* PLUS the winner will also be featured in the Spring 2008 issue of Adorn Magazine!
So to enter you must send in a photo of your original American themed handmade creation from November 1st, 2007 until December 31st, 2007. Then starting January 1st, 2008, people will vote for their creation once daily. According to the FAQs, the number of votes each entry receives will determine the top ten finalists. Then a final review will be done of the original handmade creations by the HomeGrownMarket.com judges. The Grand Prize winner will be announced on January 20th.
The two runners-up will receive a HomeGrownMarket.com Handmade Gift Pack and a signed copy of Nifty, Thrifty, and Kitschy Crafts by Leah Kramer, founder of Craftster.org
It seems that the new HomeGrownMarket.com is looking to attract some attention to their site. If you haven’t seen it yet, it is an online site for crafters/indies to sell their wares. All of the products are made exclusively in America. It is good to see avenues for small businesses to sell their wares, so you should check it out.

So you know DIY is edging into mainstream when car makers want our attention. DIYs, here is your chance to win a big prize - a brand new 2008 Scion.

Scion is challenging the “Do It Yourself” crowd to channel their inner “craftiness” and
design hand-made car accessories for a Scion vehicle in a craft making competition
that reinforces Scion’s commitment to creativity. The winner will take home a 2008
Scion xD five-door subcompact. Inform Ventures is producing the Craft My Ride competition.
“Similar to indie films, underground music, and the street art movement, we believe
the arts and crafts community harbors undiscovered talent,” said Alan Mimaki, Scion
business operations manager. “We want to support raw talent in any form, and to
build a lasting relationship within these burgeoning artistic groups. Many of our
competition winners have continued to work with Scion long after their contests have
finished, and we hope the same goes for this challenge as well.”
Well, don’t miss out - this contest may be your chance to shine.
